The Guru Principle

Guru Gita V 89 Nectar of Chanting

Brahmānandaṁ paramasukhadaṁ kevalaṁ jñānamūrtiṁ,

Dvandvātītaṁ gaganasadṛśaṁ tattvamasyādilakṣyam;

Ekaṁ nityaṁ vimalam acalaṁ sarvadhī-sākṣi-bhūtaṁ,

Bhāvā-tītaṁ triguṇa-rahitaṁ sadguruṁ taṁ namāmi.

I bow to the Sadguru, who is the bliss of Brahman and the bestower of the highest joy. He is absolute. He is knowledge personified. He is beyond duality, (all-pervasive) like the sky, and the object of (the great Upanishadic statement) “Thou art That.” He is one. He is eternal. He is pure. He is steady. He is the witness of all thoughts. He is beyond all modifications (of mind and body) and free from the three gunas.

The goal of this course :

Understanding the Guru Principle, learning what the scriptures say about it, contemplating it until we can assimilate it so that we too can become like the Guru:

  • In self control,  self management,  self mastery
  • to sport in the field like the master does with complete freedom
  • Understanding the stages of growth of contemplating the Guru: moving from beyond the physical to the relationship of the subtle, and then finally to the relationship of oneness.
